Empowering students to excel in interdisciplinary research

Integrative Sciences and Engineering Programme

Focused expertise, broadened by interdisciplinary insights

In an era shaped by AI, the Integrative Sciences and Engineering Programme (ISEP) aims to nurture and prepare PhD graduates, equipping them with both deep expertise in their chosen discipline and a broad interdisciplinary perspective. PhD scholars in this program will conduct research in two or more disciplinary fields and receive mentorship from thesis advisors specialised in their respective areas.

The ISEP difference

Our ISEP program is designed to cultivate interdisciplinary excellence, offering a holistic foundation while allowing students the flexibility to explore their research passions.

Unique lab rotations

Students have the flexibility to rotate through two or more research labs across different faculties before choosing a research group to join. For example, a student may start in the School of Medicine and later rotate to a lab in the Faculty of Engineering.

A principal investigator from your secondary faculty may serve as a co-thesis advisor or join your thesis advisory committee.

Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS)

Flexible elective modules

Students can customise their academic journey by choosing elective courses across multiple faculties, in addition to core modules. For instance, a student can select electives from the School of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, or School of Computing.

To ensure a holistic learning/education, course selection is made in consultation with your main thesis advisor and host department.
