GSS6886 NGS Seminars (2 MCs, CS/CU)NGS Seminars is a platform for students of the Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering (NGS) to develop their presentation skills by delivering seminar-style talks. Audience members will critically discuss the presented material and provide constructive feedback to their peers. Students will be evaluated by interdisciplinary faculty members who are also NGS supervisors. Prominent interdisciplinary principal investigators, from Singapore and abroad, will be invited to deliver selected seminars about their cutting-edge work. Exposing students to a variety of research topics and themes will broaden their knowledge and help them appreciate the role of interdisciplinarity in today's ground-breaking research. |

GS6889A Academic Professional Skills II (2 MCs, CS/CU)The module is an extension of GS5002 Academic Professional Skills and Techniques. It follows up from GS5002 by equipping graduate students with the skills required to complete their graduate studies and to move into the post-doctoral phase of their career. Through the module, students shall find that they are better-prepared for the final stages of their PhD and applying for their first job, and be more well-informed about the various facets of a career in academia or industry, the two most common career paths taken after attaining their PhD.

GS5101 Research Immersion Module (2 MCs, CS/CU)Students will complete two lab rotations in their first semester with NGS. Each rotation will last for at least 2 months. At the end of each lab rotation, students will submit a lab rotation report that includes a description of the research project that the student has worked on and the supervisor’s assessment of the student’s performance and commitment during the lab rotation. Students will attend a workshop, facilitated by the principal lecturers, before they start their second lab rotation. They will discuss research mentorship, research planning and management and articulate the learning experiences gleaned from their first lab rotation. Modular credits and a ‘Completed Satisfactory (CS)/Unsatisfactory (CU)’ grade are awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance for both rotations, completion of two lab rotation reports and attendance of the workshop. |

Up to 12 MCs (~3 modules) can be at Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/US) to encourage students to explore modules of different disciplines.
