WHY?
Ensure that every incoming ISEP graduate freshman knows at least one senior ISEP graduate student who can advice freshman on:
- Life in Singapore / NUS (if necessary)
- How to thrive in graduate school
- Courses to take
- Lend a listening ear
Make a new friend who will mutually support each other
Facilitate Collaboration
How it Works
Buddy Introduction
During Induction Day, every ISEP graduate freshman will be introduced to their 2nd year Senior Buddy.
Subsequent Meetings
The Freshman Junior Buddy and 2nd year Senior Buddy will meet as often as possible (min. 2 times a year) and visit each other’s lab and be introduced to each other’s supervisor.
Feedback
Both the Junior and Senior Buddies will provide feedback on their experience every semester.
How it Works

Benefits

Senior NGS graduate student will guide you through the initial stages of your graduate journey

Obligations
- Meet with buddy as often as possible (min. twice per academic year, i.e. once per semester)
- Visit each other’s laboratory and introduce buddy to the Lab PI
- Complete feedback form each semester
Senior Buddy
Benefits
Opportunity to make new friends and form collaboration or life-long network
Claim a total of 10 GAP hours
5 GAP hours per semester, regardless of the number whom you buddy.
Obligations
- Meet with buddy as often as possible (min. twice per academic year, i.e. once per semester)
- Visit each other’s laboratory and introduce buddy to the Lab PI
- Complete feedback form each semester
